Replaced by colon CT, which gives a lower radiation dose and better diagnostics.
CT
- Screening for colonic polyps
- With familial polyposis
- Suspected malignant tumour
- Blood in faeces, with significant haemorrhaging, the patient should go directly for colonoscopy
- Stomach pains with suspect colonic pathology
- Change of frequency of bowel movement
NB: with suspected inflammatory bowel disease or familial polyposis the patient should be referred for colonoscopy.
