Mediastinum

X-ray

• No indication

CT

• Enlarged lymphatic nodes in mediastinum
• Aortic aneurysm
• Aortic dissection
• Suspected tumour, thymoma
• Chronic pulmonary embolism
• When there is a strong suspicion of acute pulmonary embolism, the patient should be referred to hospital.

MRI

• Used as a supplement to CT if the patient cannot tolerate i.v. contrast or for assessment of tumour growth in the heart/large blood vessels
